CREATING BRIDGES WITH VIDEOS

Architecture is an adventure that can be explored by the challenge of doing it. At the level of architectural education, one way of doing it besides formal architectural education is informal studies such as workshops which have a growing importance. Workshops are held frequently between two or more number of architectural schools from different countries resulting in outstanding success and sharing. They help the students design thinking skills, learning by doing skills, creating motivation for creativity and most important of all self-confidence in international environments. This paper is about an international workshop titled “Bridges” held in İstanbul, on 22-26 January 2018. It was held between Escola Tècnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Barcelona and BAU Faculty of Architecture and Design. As the assignment of the workshop, students were given a challenge of creating bridges in all senses through a stop motion video. Spanish and Turkish students encountered both sides of the city. In spite of the short time, they searched for the best learning experience and voiced bilateral cultural bridges. Videos help increase student engagement and facilitate learning. Nowadays they can be made with low budgets, which is one of the important challenges to universities. There seems to be no doubt that the number of higher education institutions of design will aim at making and using more videos. From now on, the pedagogical problem should be stated as the optimum length of videos and their dependence upon subjects.
