PARAMETRIC DESIGN AS A DAYLIGHTING CREATION TOOL

Efficient and effective use of daylight is one of the most significant criteria of the architecture. In architecture, the use and control of daylight, which has a critical role due to physiological, psychological, economic and functional reasons, is provided not only through openings but also through additional mechanical equipments. However, the disadvantages of these systems may limit the adequate and effective use of daylight, which leads designers to seek new design methods. Parametric design method, which has been widely used in contemporary architecture, provides opportunities such as the use of natural light without any additional system, as well as the combination of form and function, enhanced sustainable design understanding and environmental compatibility. In this study, the relationship between parametric design and daylight use within the framework of sustainable architecture understanding will be studied with a current example from the world and the contribution of parametric design to sustainable architecture will be analyzed. With in this context, Abu Dhabi Louvre Museum, which is one of the important buildings designed with the parametric design method, will be considered as an example, and the contributions of parametric design to the light-based design approach of the said building will be examined. Unlike the conventional architectural design approach, it will be discussed that the parametric design method takes environmental vectors, especially daylight, as parameters and uses them as a source of form, and the results of this association will be further studied.
