Architect Sinan was born in 1490 in the Aðýrnas village of Kayseri the greatest architect that had ever lived in the Ottoman Empire. Architect Sinan said that it was an apprenticeship work for Þehzadebaþý Mosque. He designed Suleymaniye Mosque as a journeyman work. Selimiye Mosque, which Sinan, 90 years old, built for Selim II and said it "my masterpiece" is in Edirne.
Having undersigned 365 works across the world including 92 mosques, 52 small mosques, 55 schools of madrasahs, seven schools for Quran reciters (darülkurra), 20 mausoleums, 17 imarets, three hospitals, six waterways, 10 bridges, 20 caravanserais, 36 palaces, eight cellars and 48 public baths, Architect Sinan died on April 9, 1588 in Istanbul at the age of 98.
Architect Sinan has a great contribution not only to Ottoman architecture but also to today's architecture. Architect Sinan, especially with Selimiye, he proved the greatness of his art and mastery and set an example for architecture created the work. Selimiye location, elements together with the aesthetics created by the space-structure relationship, not only the characteristics of a religious structure, but also how thought and aesthetics are used in all designs.
Sinan's mausoleum, which is in the form of compasses when viewed from above, is located in the Suleymaniye Complex, which is regarded as "his masterpiece."
