Bank lottery houses appear as an important housing production in the formation and development of the housing culture in Turkey, together with the cooperative organizations, from the end of the 1940s to the end of the 1970s. The houses are important not only in terms of documenting modern housing production and civil architectural heritage in Turkey, but also in terms of being an example for mass housing production all over the country.
On the other hand, in architectural historiography, while a lot of work starting from the early republic period and covering the modern architecture period is mentioned, there is not much work on the lottery houses that are included in this building accumulation. However, when examining the abundance of the buildings produced in the process, the architectural qualities of the buildings, and more importantly, the values that the architectural understanding provided by the buildings are examined, it is noteworthy that these buildings have an important place. Looking at the process of Lottery houses is important in expanding our narrow perspective on modern housing production and developing possible new narratives.
Within the scope of this study, it is aimed to investigate the process of Lottery houses in Turkey and to look at the development and transformation of the process, especially through the buildings produced by Ýþbank in Istanbul Kadiköy Feneryolu district. The buildings, designed by the architect Kadir Erkman, consist of 22 buildings, A, B and C type, and the “Lottery houses neighborhood” was created.
